Richard Fulham
Richard Fulham

Richard Fulham was born in Verdun (Quebec) on March 26th 1951. He studied Fine Arts at the Vieux-Montreal College and Ceramics at the Julien studio in Quebec.

From 1977 to 1989 Richard has worked as a pottery-ceramist. During this period he combines utilitarian productions and some particular research on Ceramics, that give as a final result, a very interesting production of one of a kind pieces. Colours and textures are part of his research at this moment. He also participated in many solo and group exhibitions. During this period he was noticed as an original artist whose work is in constant progression.

During the next few years, he was active in the Arts and Crafts division, working on a larger scale in the corporative markets. Thereafter Richard returns with energy to his artistic production. For more than 5 years now he has been working exclusively on a production of collage-paintings. The works that you will see show all the determination of an artist who controls his technique than creating nothing else than an imaginary impression.

TECHNIQUE - THE COLLAGE
"The collage is a thief's pleasure made by the pillage of the community"
Francis Picabia
By the way what is a collage?
It's by cutting off, juxtaposing and superposing on a background a few ill-assorted and stranger elements that have no value, but one time reassembled in a common story get at that moment all their strength.

THE CREATIVITY PROCESS
"The most important thing is not what you see but it's what you imagine"
Léon Bellefleur

The unknown and the hazard border the pictural indiscipline and the chance. The idea must prevail on the works.

The work of Richard Fulham consists of an attempt to imagine a succession of intuitions, spontaneities and emotional charges. He is not searching for the pure technique.

"I'm waiting for the meeting of reality and imaginary. I take my inspiration in music, more specifically jazz, the actual life and the space."

Richard Fulham's work is aimed at attracting the public's attention and modifying the visitor's interpretation of traditional painting.

His approach flirts with surrealism, automatism and geometric organization.

"I support this pictural organization by adding acrylic, vinyl, chalk, pastels and occasionaly the incorporation of 3D elements that have a common significance with the painting"

In his work Richard Fulham places some mysterious and enigmatic emotional charges, unbalanced fragilities. In summary, he tries to find a different way to the expression of « collage ».
