Singer
mixed media assemblage
by Dale Copeland, 2003
44 X 21 X 26cm, 17" X 8" X 10"

In an old Singer sewing machine cover, the stuffed bird sings on a leaden tree.
The music at the back is a poem by Janet Frame, for high voice and twelve instrumentalists:
"In loss the trees bear stings, and flowers
carry pain as if it were honey.
The sun is cruel. The daylight does not
understand or why does it not bring
back the dead?
"
